I went out and checked zero today. Actually, I checked zero earlier this season, but the thing is I got an animal earlier this season. I have found that in the ruckus of getting an animal ... the field dressing, the packing out, the ... etc., etc., there is way higher likelihood, as much as we would like to not admit it, that our gun gets knocked off zero. Especially with a big animal, like an elk, that is pretty consuming.
So, since our any-weapon deer/elk season opens Monday, I thought it necessary to check zero - and am glad I did. At 100 yards the bullets were hitting 4 in. low (of bulls-eye). Crap! That's a miss on a deer - especially if I am expecting the bullet to be 2 in. high. So I adjusted.
That's just the way it is: no matter how much care I take with my firearm - it's always prudent to check zero.
Now I am 1-1/2 in. high at 100 ... the bullet floats thru zero at about 150 ... and falls about 2 in. low at 200 yards. That is perfect!
